The 2 Biggest takeaways from the 2019 season
1) It's all about getting hot at the end of the season
The Chiefs were once a struggling team with their quarterback banged up with not much on to look forward to. Ever since the Titans lost that first game to the Chiefs, they got hot and didn't look back. I think it's safe to say, they didn't peak to early. When teams get hot too early, that's when they're in their prime and it's unattainable to keep that. The Chiefs defense started out as one of the league's worst, but they got hot at the right time. Tyrann Mathieu started to step up and they began to play bully ball. Patrick Mahomes started to resemble his 2019 self and was playing like the MVP. Momentum plays a huge role when it comes to success and the Chiefs had all the momentum in the world. Not only is it important to get hot, but it's important to have a win every different type of way so by the time the superbowl comes around you know how to handle it. Being down 10 for the Chiefs was nothing new for them and Patrick Mahomes really showed why he is the face of the NFL.
2) We know who the star quarterbacks of the '20s will be
Mahomes is coming off a super bowl MVP game right now so I'm going to be heavily complimenting him throughout this article, but he is currently the face of the NFL. I think he'll continue to be the face of the NFL for this entire decade. I believe that this decade will be lead by: Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, and Russell Wilson. While Wilson is the only one in his thirties, Mahomes, Jackson, and Watson are all 24 and younger. Wilson will be the old one of the group, but I truly believe that the future will be lead by these guys. Obviously there will be other guys who are still coming out of college, but out of the guys currently in the NFL, this is the future. I think there is a tier right under with Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, and Dak Prescott. These are going to be the quarterbacks of the '20s. Other guys to look at will be: Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawerence, Spencer Rattler, Bryce Young, and DJ Uiagalelei, but that is so far down the line. It's hard to say if these guys will be successful or not just because it depends on how they fit in their system, but we know that we have 4 athletic quarterbacks who will be the stars for this up and coming decade.
